Arlington national cemetery

This cemetery is right next to the Potomac River. it stands on a hill overlooking the river and Washington DC. Construction for the cemetery began in 1802. There are over 250,000 military graves sites in this cemetery. this cemetery was not intended to be national cemetery. One of the people buried in this cemetery is President John F. Kennedy. He was buried there after he got assassinated on November 22nd 1963. He was laid to rest on November 25th 1963. Arlington for many years was the estate of Robert E. Lee. The unknown soldier tomb is located in the center of the cemetery. It is one of the main areas tourists visit when they are at the cemetery.
