the beginning of washington dc

Washington DC is officially located in the District Columbia which just happens to be in the state of Virginia. The area where Washington DC is located is right next to the Potomac River. Washington DC area was picked by the 1st president named George Washington. That is also how the name Washington DC was named. In 1791 President George Washington appointed Pierre Charles L'Enfant. He was to make a plan about what the area was to look like. His plan involved Canals, a narrower Pennsylvania Ave Which would connect the capitol building to the White House. He wanted the Capitol to be on a hill with the longitude of 0.0. L'Enfant brought his plan to president Washington but however L'Enfant came across some conflicts which involved three commissioners and anyone also that was involved in the enterprise, Shortly after President Washington dismissed him and put Andrew Ellicott in charge of the city's plans. In 1800 the government was finally moved to the new city.
