The Lincolon memorial




The Lincoln memorial is a monument that honors the 16Th president for his commitment to his country. The monument is located west of the mall strip. This monument was designed by Henry Bacon. Congress passed a bill in 1910 for the construction of the Lincoln memorial to begin. In 1914 construction started, and in 1922 the memorial was open to the public. The statue of Lincoln stands 19 feet tall. It took four years to carve the statue. The person that carved the statue was Daniel Chester French. In 1963, people crowded around the Lincoln memorial for Martin Luther King Jr's "I Have a Dream" speech. The monument is visited by over a million people per year.

The Capitol building




The Capitol building is located in Washington DC. The site that the Capitol building is by is the Smithsonian Museum.The Capitol building is one of the most important buildings in Washington DC because that is where the house of represenitves and the senate meet at. The Capitol building has been built, burned, rebuilt, extended, and restored. The Capitol building symbolizes the government and the freedom that we americans have. The capitol also has some very important pieces of art. construction for the capitol building began in 1793. In the 1800's the US congress met in the first time in the part of the building that was compleated. the part of the building that was compleated was the North Wing. The capitol building is a work place but it also is a tourist area.

White House

The White House is located in Washington DC. The White House is the place where the President lives and works at. The first floor is where all the work happens the second floor is where the president and his family lives at. In 1814 the white house was set on fire by the British Army. There was alot of damage done to the interior and it left the exterior charred. The first president to live in the White House was John Adams and first lady Abigail.

Washington monument

The Washington Monument is located in Washington DC. This monument was built in remembrance of George Washington. This is one of the many monuments that was built in George Washington's memory. The construction of this monument started in 1846. the monument was done thirty years later in 1884. The monument was recorded as the building in Washington DC standing 555 feet tall. George Washington was nicknamed "Father of our Country" He was the first president of the United States. He helped guide the government which still lasts 200 years later. When the revolutionary war ended he was the man with the up most respect. He was born on February 22nd 1732. He served as president from 1789 to 1797. The monument is made up of marble granite and sandstone. The monument was designed by Robert mills. The Washington Monument is east of the Reflecting pool and the Lincoln Memorial. The Washington Monument had huge crowds wene the elevator was built. They served wine and cheese to those who were riding, but the thing is that they never allowed women or children on the elevator only men. The average people visiting the monument was about 55,000 in 1888. In 1966 there was a new rule that the stairs were no longer to be accessible due to safety and vandalism reasons. This monument has been featured in many films. The travel time in the elevator from the main floor to the top floor is about 90 seconds. there are 854 steps in the Washington Monument. In 1982 the monument was held hostage for ten hours by a nuclear arms protester there were 8 tourist in the monument at the time but they were released when the standoff began. The incident ended with the U.S. Park police killed Norman Mayer. The Building was not damaged or anything in that sorts. The monument went under renovation in 1998 and 2000. The Washington Monument Remains the Tallest structure in the world that is made of stone.

Barack Obama




Barack Obama is the 44th president. He is the Current President of the United States of America. Barack Obama was born April 4th 1961. he is Originally from Hawaii. Obama has graduated from collage at Columbia University and Harvard Law School. Barack Obama is a Democrat. Obama was a state seneter from 1997-2004 in the state of Illinois. Obamas Innaguration was on January 20th 2009. Obamas first couple of days in office he enforced the United States Military to start making plans for getting troops out of Iraq. He also ordered the closing of Guantanamo Bay.

Smithsonian museum

The Smithsonian museums are located in Washington Dc. The Smithsonian is on the Mall Strip by the Capitol building. The Smithsonian is made up of many buildings. Some of the buildings you may see are the Holocaust Museum, Air and space,the National Zoo, And that is only some of the buildings that are apart of the Smithsonian museum. The Smithsonian Museums purpose is to ensure learning. There are a total of 19 museums at the Smithsonian museum. There are over 136 MILLION artifacts that are at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC. The Smithsonian Museum was founded in August
10th 1846.

Taxation with Representation



In Washington D.C. you will see some licsence plates with the words taxation without representation. What that means is like they arnt allowed to vote because they dont have a congressional rights to vote but the thing is that they have to still pay taxes, that is how the saying came "taxation without representation."

Abraham Lincolon

Abraham lincolon was the 16th president. Abraham Lincolon was born on Febuary 12 1809. Lincolon was president when the civil war was in effect. He was the first Republicon to be elceted president. He played a very important role in the presidential seat. He signed the Emancepation Proclomation. What that was about was that document freed all the slaves. President Lincoln was at the Fords Theater watching a play and he got shot in the head by John Wilkes Booth. President Lincoln was rushed to the Petersons house where he was in acoma for nine hours. Lincolon never regained conciousness. Docter Charles Leale Pronounced that he was dead at 7:22am On April 15th 1865. Lin colons body was put on a train and was brought through several states as people morned from his death. On the other hand The Copperheads were celebrating his death because they belived that he was a tyrant.

George Washington

George Washington was the first president of the United states. He was born on Febuary 22nd 1732. He served as president from 1789 to 1797. Americans often refferd to him as "Father of Our Country". The continental congress appointed him as commander in chief of the revelotionary forces for the americans in 1775. After the war was over King George III asked him what he was going to do next. Rumors were that he was going to return to his farm on Mount Vernon. King george said that if he was to go back to his farm that he would be "The greatest man in the world." Washington returned to his privite life and retired to his plantation on Mount Vernon. On January 6th 1959,Washington married the widow Martha Dandrige Custis. Letters suggest that at the time he was in love with Sally Fairfax a wife of one of his friends. The way that Washington was elected was that he was elected by the electoral collage. He is the only President in the history to receive 100% of electoral votes in history. After retiring from being president he went back to Mount Vernon and devoted much of his time farming. Washington died on March 4th 1797. Henry lee said "First in war, First in peace, and First in the hearts of his countrymen" On December 18th a funeral was held on Mount Vernon. He was put in a tomb on his estate.

Washington DC is officially located in the District Columbia which just happens to be in the state of Virginia. The area where Washington DC is located is right next to the Potomac River. Washington DC area was picked by the 1st president named George Washington. That is also how the name Washington DC was named. In 1791 President George Washington appointed Pierre Charles L'Enfant. He was to make a plan about what the area was to look like. His plan involved Canals, a narrower Pennsylvania Ave Which would connect the capitol building to the White House. He wanted the Capitol to be on a hill with the longitude of 0.0. L'Enfant brought his plan to president Washington but however L'Enfant came across some conflicts which involved three commissioners and anyone also that was involved in the enterprise, Shortly after President Washington dismissed him and put Andrew Ellicott in charge of the city's plans. In 1800 the government was finally moved to the new city.

Washington D.C.

Washington D.C. is located in Virginia, Washington is in the area of The District of Columbia. it is located next to the Potomac river. Washington is not a state, it is the capitol of the United Sates, it is also a federal district. the states that boarder Washington D.C. are Maryland and Virginia. Some Washington D.C. symbol's that represents Washington D.C. the bird is the Wood thrush, the motto is Justitia Omnibus (justice for all).There are many monuments that are in Washington going from memorials to museums and many other monuments that make up what Washington DC is today.
